DJ Sneak Vs Swedish House Mafia HOUSE MUSIC WARS!

added - You can read the full interview w/ Sneak on DJ Mags website >>HERE<<

ATTENTION BEFORE YOU READ THIS - I DONT DISAGREE WITH WHAT'S AT THE CORE OF DJ SNEAKS COMMENT, WHAT I DISAGREE WITH IS HOW HE WENT ABOUT IT.. (thats for the idiots who seem to think I am biased in my opinion, I would have said the same thing had ANY respected DJ or producer did this shit)

I log into Twitter today to see a huge amount of Tweets about DJ Sneak, coming from a lot of International DJs and producers like Steve Angello, Ingrosso etc... I look into and find out that Sneak has said some snarky comments about their success in the world of EDM.

His comment "It's a sad thing when the Swedish House Mafia is being paid BIG money to come to the US to play house, for the record, they DO NOT play house music". Although I commend him for speaking his mind I do have sort of conflicting feelings about this.

First and foremost, I think this was to be expected. Lots of people on the fringe of breaking the mold of EDM, house music or any other dance genre is going to come under fire. I don't always agree with or like some of the things SHM does when it comes to business, but that's not really an issue for me. When you have some like DJ Sneak who has a very good reputation with the house community come out and say something like this, it sort of makes you wonder "Why?". I did some research and found out that he was a huge part of the WMC this past year, bumping elbows with lots of those guys he seems to dislike. It's also interesting the way he worded his opinion (insult), he says "paid BIG money" now, why would someone of his caliber bring that up? If he was truly worried about the state of house music and the passion of it, then why would he bring up money? That's the part that bothers me, he didn't say they were putting out shit music, he also didn't bring up the commercialization factor, just the amount of money they are being paid for playing NOT house music. Also he sounds ignorant, considering that he is labeled under 3 different genre of house music on Beatport. House music is an umbrella term for lots of different types of dance music, he should know that considering all the links he drops are for deep house or minimal. What it sounds like he (Sneak) is more upset with the success of these other DJs, he is pointing out things that internet trolls do. Linking to pictures of lulz in regards to some of the bigger DJs in the world of EDM.

Check out some of his tweets about this, and how he takes the opportunity to drop his soundcloud link and more into the advantage of gaining new followers and fans on the backs of the DJs he is criticizing.

Look at this insult, but its about the music, right???

Then he goes on to insult OTHER DJs not even part of Swedish House Mafia

Then finally after he has created a big enough buzz over this bullshit drama..

The way I feel about it is no matter what intentions he tries to sell here it comes off as jealousy. I don't always agree with what the bigger EDM producers/DJs do but I'll be damned if I try to bump my hustle off by smack talking them personally. Yes its true, maybe they aren't as big as the hype that surrounds them but you have to take responsibility for what you say, especially on Twitter or Facebook. If you go read his Twitter feed (@dj_sneak) you will see how he was living in the moment when all this drama happened. He didn't just say his piece and let it go, he was practically baiting people to argue with him. This was more like an internet troll than a well respected DJ. I think Sneak is very talented and paid his dues, but seriously, this isn't thug life 2pac VS Biggie shit. At the end of the day there is more than enough room in the world for EDM/House music producers and DJs, you have to pick your battles where they matter, THIS didn't matter. Will this do anything for his career? Make his paychecks any bigger? Get him booked in more clubs and for more events? Most likely, no. This comes across as an out of touch jealous DJ who had nothing better to do than personally insult other people in his field and expose how he wishes HE could make the money they make.

Sorry Sneak, no matter the support here, you lost. Should have said this differently or not at all.

  1. obviously, the author doesnt know about the ethos of real house music or djing for that matter. He should read all the tweets of sneak and not focus on one aspect (the money part) - when you get paid lots of money to DJ, DJ like a real DJ does... don't play pre-recorded music - cause that's the very definition of a fake. Oh, he wanted to sync with the fireworks you say? So dance music has progressed to where the music doesnt matter anymore??Sneak calling it like it is. Simple.

  2. "Obviously, the author doesnt know about the ethos of real house music or djing for that matter." Completely agree and for someonme to say that beatport defines sneaks music is also a completely ridiculous comment.

    1. Its too know that you guys are doing your research.. so I guess whatever Sneak says about house music is 100% accurate and there is no room for interpretation? Totally understand... after youre done licking his balls and hiding behind an anonymous post get back at me

  3. Second that, maybe Sneak wasn't subtle, and maybe he could have said it in a different way. His point remains, Steve Angello aint house, big ego, no dj skills, a sell out. It's sad to see fellow djs like Junior Sanchez dont have the balls to support him. I saw Nick Curly did, good for him !

    1. You partly understood where I stand... I am not a Steve Angello fan.. so my point of view wasnt disagreeing with Sneak.. its not agreeing with the way he did it.. it was a dick move.. he is entitled to his opinion but so am I and so is everyone else.. just as he is allowed to say what he wants under free speech I am allowed to say I dont agree with it.. plain and simple..

As far as showing support.. support for what? Support for someone with a chip on their shoulder who has no tact when saying stuff? I am over this no responsibility for actions.. people say shit then think "because I was man enough to stay it that makes it ok" no it doesnt.. keepin it REAL doesnt mean being rude or insulting.. there are far too many people in the world who have no skills when it comes to throwing criticism instead of insults..

  4. Think it was more the fact that.. They were paid BIG MONEY to pretend to mix. Sneak was pissed at the fact people pay good money for tickets to see them perform LIVE, but they just play a pre recorded set and waves their arms about :)

    1. First of all, thank you for the very well spoken response, its appreciated. Now let me try and make myself as clear as possible, I dont disagree with whats at the core of his argument.. to be even more clear I THINK ITS BULLSHIT THAT DJS FAKE THEIR SETS.. I dont agree with it and I am not a fan of Steve Angello.. which I thought I made clear before. Ok.. now.. Its a shame that a DJ would fake their set at all.. for any amount of money, my issue with it is how he put a monetary value on something that should transcend that which is dignity and honesty.. if its for 5 dollars for 500000 dollars the fact remains, its disgusting that anyone would do that..

My entire reason for pointing this out is how its perceived, which is possibly why so many other DJs dont "support" his argument. Had he just said "I think its bullshit these DJs are coming over here doing gigs while fake DJing" I dont think I would have had ONE problem with that, because that statement says exactly what it needs to say.. my issue with it, as I have said before.. is how he put a value on it and made some very personal negative statements on Twitter..

Last time I checked the opposite of Fake is REAL, not rude and I feel he was very very rude in the way he handled it.. I am not a fanboy so I dont get easily dazzled by fame so if someone does something that is a dick move I just call it like I see it no matter WHO it is. Sneak is a veteran and well respected within the house community, this entire situation was BENEATH who he is to the public.. the people supporting him with blinders on are the ones missing the bigger point.. Thats it..

  5. His comment is directed more to those who are willing to pay the big money for something that's not worth it, thats the sad thing he's talking about

    1. I agree with this philosophy, however I still stand by what I said. Once you get personal with someone it goes outside of business, there is a fine line and that line was crossed. If I tell someone I dont agree with what they DID, thats fine.. thats me telling them how I feel. If you look at the conversations that were had about this over Twitter you can see that it got a lot more personal than professional and I just dont dig that, thats all.

  8. When you're ready to sell your house, you will need to get it in its best possible condition, especially in today's competitive environment. An open house presents an opportunity to showcase the best features of your home and allows the potential buyers to get a feel for the property. If you 're a fist time home seller, you may think of the open house as the point at which your Realtor waits until you leave, turns into a magician and with a flick of his/her wrist, completely transforms your home into something out of Bravo's Million Dollar Listing.
