Avicii - Silhouettes OFFICIAL VIDEO

It seems that Avicii has dropped this years "Levels" giving us a Summer anthem and revising his sound just enough to make us jump up and down and shake our asses again. "Silhouettes" features the vocals of Salem Al Fakir and has the signature melody driven sound we have come to love from Avicii, don't take my word for it, check out the video below!

Afrojack Shermanology "Can't Stop Me" Official Video Released

I know I have been pretty hard on Afrojack in the past about some of his more recent productions but I am in love with this collab he did with Shermanology. "Cant Stop Me" has been a track I have played with in my recent sets using it with various mashups etc. I do think this track has a very reminiscent feel almost like a sequel to "Take Over Control". The official video is a fun video showing some shots of the crew in Las Vegas doing what they do best, having a good time. I have included the Soundcloud link below so you can head over and snag this single. I included this on one of my podcasts which I will link below as well! ENJOY!

Scissor Sisters - Only The Horses PRODUCED BY CALVIN HARRIS!

Calvin Harris is really ON FIRE right now! He has become one of the most sought after edm/pop crossover producers of 2012 thanks to his huge success with Rihanna. Not only is he working with some of the biggest names in pop music right now but he is even working with some unexpected artists. The Scissor Sisters (NYC based electro/glam/punk/nudisco band) who have been a cult sensation for many years now have teamed up with Calvin Harris to bring us "Only The Horses" a fun dance laced Summer track for us to party to.

This track is not only one of their best to date (in my opinion) its also setting us up for the sounds of the Summer 2012. Calvin is also working with Cheryl Cole for her next single and this signature progressive sound is hear throughout the track. I expect the Summer of 2012 to be laced with progressive goodness on pop radio (I predicted this Fall of last year btw). I can't wait to hear more from the Scissor Sisters this year and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for what Calvin has in store for us this Summer!!!!

Eva Simons - I Don't Like You (Nicky Romero Remix) PREVIEW

As you guys know already, I love this track. I posted a link to Nicky dropping
his remix LIVE on my Facebook Page a couple of weeks ago & I have been anticipating the release ever since. I dig the original and I think Zedd did a masterclass on his production (still waiting for an extended version of that) but I wanted to hear some variations of the song. Nicky delivers with his signature sound who so many others are trying to recreate now take a listen and stay tuned for the release!!! Set for May 22nd!

Rihanna - Where Have You Been (Hardwell Remix)

When I heard Rihanna's track "We Found Love" I knew for certain we had some major stuff in store from her off her latest effort "Talk That Talk". Although I was somewhat disappointed that there wasn't more dance tracks on the album, the 2 Calvin Harris produced songs were so amazing I couldn't stay upset very long.

I LOVED...LOVED.. LOVEDDDDDDDDD "We Found Love" and to see a crowd of music lovers who had never heard anything like that before jump around and embrace a more progressive house sound on a pop record, wow. Lots of people were upset about the crossover potential for the genre but I for one am pretty happy about it. The reason why is I don't think Calvin Harris compromised the sound of the record for Rihanna, I think they blended pop and progressive together in a way that doesn't whore out the music for the sake of it.

To listen to both tracks (We Found Love, Where Have You Been), you can tell they could have gone either way. Had these songs been released by a dance artist on the dance charts I think they would have still been hugely successful, with that being said the songs can take themselves seriously unlike something from LMFAO that has to bring humor into dance music to try and sell records.

"Where Have You Been" immediately became my favorite record on the album because it was a bit more dance oriented than the first single. It also shows a side of Rihannas voice that gives you a sense of urgency and then the build that takes you directly into accomplishment and satisfaction into a huge drop. I didn't think anyone could top it... then I was wrong. Hardwell brings this track even further into EDM with a complete reconstruction of the instrumental. He didn't use any of the original portions of the track for this, he basically took the acapella and reworked the entire song. I love both versions but I think for me, during a peak set you don't get any slicker than the Hardwell mix, what do you think?

Madonna MDNA Sales TANK In Second Week

Well I won't apologize for being the bearer of bad news over the new Madonna album. As a fan I regret being so accurate about the dying sales after the first weeks release. The news groups are reporting several factors but overall lets just chalk it up to a lackluster album. After my review several of my friends were upset at how harsh I was about the album but I wanted to be honest, Madonna wouldn't hold back when it came to her opinion so I felt I would return the favor.

The album debuted at #1 in many countries around the world, but I predicted it was all on the hype of the album release AND it being a Madonna album the fans were dying to get their hands on it. I had told many friends it would be lucky to stay top ten after its first week on the charts, sales dropped 90% in the second week and are showing even more signs of trouble. One of the biggest signs of her loss of pop relevance is the latest single "Girl Gone Wild" has charted well in the Billboard dance charts it has yet to break top 10 in the pop charts while other artists with more current musical influence dominate the Billboard hot 100. In her defense it has been top 10 in the bubbling category but without a break into the official hot 100 its likely to be what many would see as a commercial failure as a single. Fans are holding fast to its number 1 dance chart debut but in the big scheme of things that won't help the album in the sales department.

To be even more specific the first week in digital downloads and pre-sales the album garnered 369,000 copies then dropping to 40,000 the second week. This sets the records as biggest sales drop of all time, a record I am sure she doesn't want to take credit for. Even the "little monsters" are happy about this as the record was held by Lady Gaga for "Born This Way", I guess Madonna did beat Gaga, but not the way she wanted to I am sure.

I don't want to beat up on Madonna, I LOVE the high points of her career and her "take charge, fuck you" attitude, but I think in this case its more of a hindrance than a help for her mainstream career in today's pop market. Madonna was setting trends in the 80s and 90s now she is chasing them, it's not a good look for her. The entire album as a whole may resonate with her fans and the older crowd but its clearly NOT a pop masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination. When you have artists like Katy Perry, Rihanna & Nicki Minaj showing how they can still connection with the younger generation and keep a hold on the industry someone like Madonna SHOULD take notes.

All and all I think this album was less about US (the fans) and more about her and to sort of get a buzz for her upcoming world tour. I think for her, touring and playing to HER crowd is probably something she should focus on in the future. Trying to stay pop relevant in todays market is a feat for a much more connection market of artists. I don't think her age has anything to do with it, I think its more of a disconnect with the world around her. Similar to artists like Prince & Janet Jackson who have a history of being world icons but can't connect to a mainstream market, they don't really understand it. I would love to see these artists do a live concert, for nostalgic value but I think they are truly talented and unique. However, I think they should hang up their studio time trying to stay current, its just not gonna happen without a lot of help.

Nicky Romero - Tension *FREE DOWNLOAD*

I have been a long time support of Nicky Romero, his blend of electro and traditional house intrigues me. He has hits and misses but he is never safe and I can admire that about him. He is one to watch in 2012, I think we will be hearing a lot from him this year. In celebration of his continued success he gives us a free download of one of his personal tracks. "Tension" reminds me a lot of something from Dada Life meets Alesso with a Nicky Spin on it, you can hear his influence in the structure of this track with the drops and builds. Check out and below the video link is the download link, enjoy! Thanks Nicky!!!

Shawnee Taylor - Colors ft Sympho Nympho (AKA Erick Morillo, Harry Romero & Jose Nunez)

If this song cant get the boys on the dance floor I don't know what can! This is out now to purchase so get your copy today!!! Expect to hear this in my sets all Summer long! I cant wait to hear the remix packages for this song!

Above & Beyond - Love Is Not Enough (Kaskade Mix)

Most of you know (and if you didn't now you do) that Trance is almost NEVER on my radar. I don't spin Trance and if you ask me about it, all I know is whoever is on top right now. Above & Beyond are on top of their game when it comes to modern Trance. This track has been circulating for a while in its original form but today I came across this remix and I was blown away. There is a line with me that I cross when a Trance song has been remixed or sounds Progressive enough for me to put it in my sets (Slumber, Drowning etc). Kaskade takes this song to Progressive cheesecake, so good you HAVE to take a bite. This is out for commercial purchase RIGHT NOW I suggest you listen to it then head over to Beatport and snag it!!!!!

Madonna - Girl Gone Wild (Avicii & Dadalife Mixes)

Posting this from my phone so bear with me, this week the promo package for the second set of "Girl Gone Wild" remixes came out and I am far more impressed with this package than the first one. Avicii and Dada Life laced this track up, the Avicii mix sounds like a more evolved Avicii with a touch of Alesso, not a bad combo if you ask me, very nice almost chainsaw even for Avicii which is a nice twist.

The Dada Life remix is FAT and THICK exactly what you would expect from Dada Life. Out of the Two remixes I am more likely to play the Avicii mix during peak set, but if you are trying to troll the crowd go for the Dada Life remix. Has 2 really nice fades into heavy chunky drops, great for those nights when you are tired of Madonna requests and just want to get it out of the way LOL. Enjoy!

Madonna & Avicii UMF 2012 Drug Reference Or Ironic Promotional FAIL?

This years Ultra Music Fest will go down in history as not only being the biggest but also one of the most controversial. This was the year where mainstream met underground and the clash of the titans in the world of EDM. For years EDM fans had been able to attend these "raves" and enjoy music that wasn't widely known here in the states. Although EDM has been big around the world for years, here in the USA we hadn't seen a dance music resurgence like this since the early 90s with the Eurodance/House music era. I think many if not most of you guys that saw UMF on YouTube/Googleplay this year you were shocked and as confused as I was to see Madonna walk out on the mainstage. She was there mostly, to promote her new (lackluster) album which was produced entirely by EDM producers. She also opened the stage for Avicii who debuted his remix of "Girl Gone Wild" during the evening Madonna used the phrase "Has anybody seen Molly?" which stirred up quite a controversy on the internet to the extent that even deadmau5 spoke up.

Now Madonna responded by saying this statement was in reference to her friend Cedric Gervais new single "Molly". This statement may be true but its very reckless if in fact she said this and had no clue what it meant. It also seems very odd that she would use this phrase while introducing Avicii because there is no connection and Avicii was not playing the track during his set. Also her new album titled MDNA is very similar to MDMA which as well know is also a drug reference, coincidence? Not certain but seems suspicious. Either way it sort of set a bad mood for a lot of the EDM community because for years we have had to listen to the media position us as druggies/freaks who do nothing but destroy property with no respect for anyone. I will link the Cedric track below to give you guys a peek into his acid/house track that Madonna claims to be referencing.

Gotye & Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know (LAZRtag Remix) FREE DOWNLOAD!

If you aren't tired of this song already, this might push you over the limit HOWEVER I think this is the best big room remix for this song. LAZRtag has been know for their electro and extremely heavy productions however this mix has a much more uplifting feel to it (Avicii, Alesso, Hardwell) more so than anything else they have done. I had been using the Hypercrush remix but some said it was too short, too heavy or didn't work in their sets. I will promise you, if that mix didn't work for you, THIS ONE WILL! This mix takes the song to that big room level that none of the previous mixes did, this is like peak hour material, don't take my word for it, the guys at LAZRtag are offering it as a free download via Soundcloud right now, snag it while you can.. before they disable it!!!!

If you want to go HARDER with it, check out the mix I have been playing below.. via Hypercrush, this one is offered as a free download at the moment as well.. these are the 2 best mixes in my opinion, what do you think?
